Metallic optical reflectors achieve reflection by surface coating. Generally, plane mirrors are divided into metal film mirrors and dielectric film mirrors. Both of these are coated on the surface of the substrate, and the film layer will have factors such as absorption and dispersion.

Metallic optical reflectors are commonly used in scientific research experiments, national defense applications, daily life and other applications.

We can use magnetron sputtering equipment to deposit metal on the surface of the substrate. We can deposit gold, silver, copper and aluminum materials. In addition, in order to protect the surface of the metal film layer, we can also deposit Sio2 as a protective layer on the surface of the metal film layer. At the same time, because the equipment we use is magnetron sputtering coating equipment, the thickness of the film layer is very precise and the density of the film layer is also very excellent.

Below we introduce several categories of commonly used metal reflectors:


Aluminized reflector:

Compared with other metal materials, the optical film of this type of reflector is relatively stable. Since the surface layer of the aluminum-coated film is aluminized, an aluminum oxide film can be generated in the atmosphere. The aluminum-coated reflector uses a vacuum coating method. A total reflection mirror coated with an aluminum film on the surface of a flat substrate can achieve a reflectivity of more than 90% in the visible light region.

Silver-plated reflector:

The silver-coated mirror has a relatively high reflectivity of greater than 95% in the visible and infrared bands. When the mirror is tilted, the polarization effect of the mirror is very small. The adhesion between the silver-coated mirror film layer and the optical glass substrate is poor, and it is easily affected by sulfides and has a short service life.


Gold plated reflector:

The reflectivity of gold-plated mirrors in the infrared band is as high as over 98%. The gold-plated film has poor adhesion. The chromium film is used as the base to improve the adhesion of the film. The strength and stability of gold-plated mirrors are better than silver-plated mirrors, but Gilded mirrors cannot be scrubbed when stains are present.
